PARTICIPATE IN A RESEARCH STUDY

Have you became a victim of a Russian or Ukrainian dating scam?

Have you corresponded with a dating scammer?

Elena Garrett, the owner of this site, is conducting an academic study devoted solely to the subject of online dating scams.

Elena is searching for people who have either 1) communicated with a Russian/Ukrainian visa-and-tickets scammer or a translation agency agency scammer; or 2) sent money to the category of scammers mentioned above.

The primary goal of the study is to look into the methods used by Russian and Ukrainian dating scammers, and to find out why some Internet users comply with the scammers’ money requests while others do not.

You are invited to participate if you meet the following criteria:

  • You have corresponded with an Internet dating scammer from Russia or Ukraine within the last 5 years AND you received money solicitation(s) from that scammer
  • The scam that you encountered is characteristic of either a Visa-and-Tickets scam or a Ukrainian Translation scam
  • You remember the details of that situation
  • You have ended the relationship with that scammer
  • At the time when you were approached by the scammer, you were not a scam baiter
  • You have a good command of English language, and you can understand and answer questions in English

Users who decide to participate in the survey will fill out a sequence of five online questionnaires, detailing their experience with the scammers. This will be a very extensive survey. Users can anticipate a time investment of at least 3 to 5 hours (over the course of several day) completing the survey.

Participation in the study will be kept confidential. Participation is voluntary and participants will not receive any financial reward for participation.

If you would like to find out more about the study, and if you feel like participating, please click here to fill out a short application
